White People Do Not Know How to Respect the Outdoors

That's right. I said that white people do not know how to respect the few amazing green spaces we have in our cities. Let's narrow that down a bit further to the 18-32 year-old demographic to keep this civil.

Being able to thoroughly enjoy a picnic, event, or party in a neighborhood park is just one of the best privileges that we can have. Even if you don't like the outdoors, it can still feel like you haven't left the privacy of your home. But why do white people take that for granted and allow "the elements" to take care of their residual detritus and gunk? That's right, white people. I'm asking you to stop treating the wonderful space we all share as crash pad or a dumping ground.

Okay, so there is a reason for the discrimination here. Great Meadow and Dolores (Dropbox) Park have recently been victimized by neglectful revelers, and as you can see, the majority of party-goers are white people. I'm not ignoring that minorities are not at fault also, but if I'm going to fix a problem, I focus on the main source. In this case, it is conveniently (and photogenically) white people.

Clean up after yourselves. If you brought that six pack in a bag, leave with 6 empty bottles in a bag. Cups are stack-able and disposable/reusable sometimes. Don't leave precious recyclables lying around either! Sigh.

Downtown's Quiet Banh Mi Crumbs

Oakland has an awesome, but quiet, banh mi scene. They follow all of the tradition of French-inspired Vietnamese sandwiches, and some take it to more modern roots. Here are two places I recently tried.

Cam Huong ∙ website

There is usually a bit of a line out the door, but that's mostly due to the shop's layout. They carry the usual cold cuts, pates, and vegetables but also add marinated and barbecued proteins. The flow and design of the place is a bit confusing at first, but you get used to it. Great prices and variety in Oakland's Chinatown.

A more modern and risky take on banh mi in a comfy cafe setting. The location is slightly off the beaten path, but is still very accessible from downtown Oakland. Pictured is their soft tofu and mushroom banh mi... needless to say, that was gone a few seconds later. This place is definitely worth multiple visits!

Gay Bros

Queer SF parties. Cue the tank tops, douche hats, and skin!

What's up with Sac?

All that traffic congestion, and yet it is a ghost town.
